Exploragym Preschool is a play based program, emphasizing development of the child as a whole. We provide emphasis on the social emotional learning of a child because we believe that helps them grow into successful individuals. We provide a positive, supportive environment to help the child develop socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively.
We provide a curriculum that prepares the child for kindergarten. The following learning categories more fully explain the content of our program.
Movement Exploration:
Our movement program develops large motor skills through dance, obstacle courses, climbing, tumbling, and skipping, hopping, running (during outdoor play).
Socio-emotional learning:
Includes teaching children to respect others, express
Themselves appropriately, gain listening skills, sharing, taking turns and co-operative play.
Reading readiness:
Children learn to recognize their name, alphabet letters, first uppercase, and then lowercase and their sounds. (Phonics program) Children will progress to simple blending of sounds, sight words, vowels, vowel sounds, and diagraphs by the end of the year.
Our classroom days will include exposure to a wide range of story reading, rhymes, songs, flannel boards and finger plays.
Printing and fine motor skills:
Children learn well from fine motor activities of cutting with scissors, using crayons to print letters and numbers and write their names, copying and tracing, all support learning. We also support learning through alternative sensory ways, (Tracing in sand, sand paper letters and numbers)
Math Skills:
Circletime includes rote counting and recognizing numbers to 20. We play math games and puzzles to emphasize one to one correspondence patterning, sequencing, understanding quantity and sizes, measurements, simple addition and subtraction.
Science:
Science activities provide plenty of hands on experience that supports the scientific method of observation classification and communication. Through the year we will incorporate topics such as Trees and Space
Weather and 5 senses
Lifecycles and Animal Kingdom
Art
We provide open ended activities that encourage and support the child’s creativity and confidence.
Easels are open the whole day. We also include
Structured art projects to build fine motor skills, and promote listening skills, and following instructions.
Weekly Cooking Projects
We plan simple cooking projects, with ingredients to make healthy and tasty snacks.
We are a nut free school.
Cooking with children helps them to understand the process of putting ingredients together to make a new product. They gain cognitively by mixing, pouring measuring, There is hands on learning about nutrition and provides opportunity for sensory exploration, cooperative work, development of fine motor skills.
